 Recommended Vaccine Guidelines

  • “Core vaccines” (rabies, FVRCP, and DHLPP) are recommended for most pets every 1 to 3 years. Pets must be at least 12 weeks old to receive a rabies vaccine.
  • Additional yearly “non-core vaccines” (FeLV, Bordetella and other vaccines) may be appropriate based on the pet’s particular needs.
  • Puppies and kittens should begin vaccinations at 6-8 weeks old and continue receiving appropriate vaccination boosters throughout the pet’s life.
  • Puppies and kittens should receive a series of vaccinations given no more than 3-4 weeks apart until about 16 weeks old.
  • Adult animals with no vaccine history should receive appropriate boosters within 4 weeks of the first vaccine.
  • Our veterinarian may recommend an alternate vaccination schedule based on individual risk factors.
  • The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recommends that veterinarians customize vaccination programs to the needs of their patients.
