VHS Art Club is going to the dogs...and cats!December 01 - 15, 2013
The Virginia High Art Club is teaming up with the Bristol Human Society and Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic to promote awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering your pets. The members of the Art Club are embarking on a P.O.P Art Project—doing pet portraits with the proceeds going towards Pet Overpopulation Prevention (POP).
In this country, there are over 3 million animals who are euthanized each year, and another 6-8 million who are in shelters because there aren’t enough homes for all the animals. This is a terrible tragedy that can be avoided by controlling the number of pets in the world so that there are enough loving homes to go around. In an effort to help control the pet population, the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic offers reduced cost spaying and neutering for pet owners in the area who may not be able to afford the procedure otherwise. Students in the VHS Art Club will be doing pet portraits, with 100% of the proceeds from the portraits going to the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic to assist with the cost of spaying and neutering animals in our area,
Those interested in having a portrait of their pet made may contact the club at VHSPopArt@gmail.com.
The members of the Art Club are happy to lend their talents to help benefit such a worthy cause and to help promote awareness of the importance of having your pet spayed or neutered. There are different pricing levels available, ranging from $7 for computer generated jpeg file of your pet rendered in the style of Andy Warhol, to $15 for a realistic pencil portrait, and $25 for a realistic colored drawing or painting. These pet portraits would make a special gift for the pet lover in your family while also benefitting the animals in our area.
Remember, a portrait can only be as good as the photograph that is provided for a reference. The portraits will be completed on a first-come, first produced basis and should take an average of 2-3 weeks to complete once work has begun. There may be an additional wait time before they are able to begin work, pending the response to this offer. Checks should be made payable to the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic and are due upon delivery of the portrait.
In addition, with permission of the portrait recipient, pet portraits completed by the students before December 1st may be part of a gallery display at the School Board Office located at 220 Lee Street from December 1 through the 16th.

Together, we can all work to make sure that there are enough loving homes for all the pets in our area.
