What is DockDogs®?

DockDogs® is the independent governing and sanctioning body for regional, national and international dock jumping performance sport for dogs. In 2002, DockDogs® as a company operation was established in order to develop standards and maintain credibility for their competitions.

People like to compete and people like to have something to do with their dog that doesn’t require loads of time and training. Anyone with a dog and a fetch toy can participate and everyone can appreciate the companionship we have with our pups. People love dogs. This is another way for people to enjoy the outdoors with their companions. We all love it when we can get the dogs out in the backyard and become part of the family.

Big Air® (equivalent to the Long Jump) is the original and still most popular DockDogs® competition. Any breed from the smallest Chihuahua to the largest Great Dane is welcome. The dogs do need to be 6 months or older. The handler must be 7 years or older and can throw the fetch toy for their dog. Each dog and their handler are a competition team and each team competes head-to-head against one another to see which team can jump the farthest distance. Each team is allotted 90 seconds to get their dog down the dock and into the water. When it is all said and done… the dog that jumps the farthest takes home the crown.

Extreme Vertical® (equivalent to the High Jump) is the second form of DockDogs® competition. A “Bumper” is suspended from a specially designed extender arm. Each team is allowed to use a maximum of 20 feet of dock surface and is allotted 60 second to jump in the air while attempting to remove the “Bumper” from the Extender Arm. The dog that jumps the highest takes home the crown.

Speed Retrieve™ is the newest form of DockDogs® competition which focuses on the dogs combined abilities of jumping, swimming, retrieving and speed. Upon a go signal, the dog must run and jump into the pool, swim to the end of the 40 foot pool, and retrieve the object from a modified extender arm. The fastest dog both on the dock and in the water is the champion!
